Our bird outing on a dull Thursday morning took in our Little River Ferry loop.
After all the recent rains, we found the Little River Nature Sanctuary ponds and the Little River itself at flood levels – another sign that we are heading into the winter months. Despite a slow start in sighting birds, the count started to rise as the morning progressed, ending up at 26 species:
Common Raven, American Crow, Bald Eagle, Great Blue Heron, Spotted Towhee, White-crowned Sparrow, Song Sparrow, Dark-eyed Junco, Golden-crowned Kinglet, House Finch, Chestnut-backed Chickadee, Killdeer, Glaucous-winged Gull, American Wigeon, Mallard, Hooded Merganser, Red-breasted Merganser, Common Merganser, Red-necked Grebe, Horned Grebe, Common Loon, Greater Scaup, Common Goldeneye, Green-winged Teal and Bufflehead.
