Everyone who attended our February 5th Monthly Gathering enjoyed “Bat Chat” with Tryna McLean.
Tryna is Head Gardener at Filberg Park in Comox and a Bat Ambassador. She shared her enthusiasm about the Comox Community Bat Program, the important role of bats in our local environment, and how we can help protect them. As residents, we can help bats by:
- planting native species
- not using pesticides
- reducing outdoor lighting
- protecting trees and roost sites
- volunteering with the Comox Community Bat Program and participating in Roost Counts (coordinated through the Cumberland Forest Society)
Tryna mentioned other opportunities to learn more about bats:
“Bat Packs” - backpacks containing educational activities about bats can be signed out at the Comox Community Centre.
“The Invisible Mammal” – a documentary film about bats, their struggle to survive and the humans who help them: https://www.theinvisiblemammal.com
International Bat Appreciation Day – April 17, 2026
DOOR PRIZES: Four lucky members won gift cards to Hot Chocolates … perfect timing for the Comox Valley Chocolate Fest. Congrats!
